Cultural Literacy: Deaf Culture

July 25, 7:00-8:00 PM, Meeting Room

It often comes as a surprise that many Deaf people refer to themselves as members of Deaf Culture. The American Deaf culture uses American Sign Language as its primary mode of communication and views itself as a unique linguistic minority.

However, as with any culture, there is so much more! We will explore folk traditions, history, customs, arts, literature, social institutions and achievements of this indigenous culture. UNI professor Karlene Kischer-Browne will be here to discuss this fascinating topic and answer questions.
