Computers, Internet, & WiFi
The Library has 20 public access computers available for use on the second floor. In addition to providing access to the internet, the computers also have Microsoft Office products. Computers are reserved on a “first come, first served,” basis for one hour blocks of time with additional minutes if no one else is waiting. All computer sessions must end 10 minutes prior to closing time.
To use the computers, patrons must enter the barcode number found on the back of their library card. If all of the computers are occupied, patrons may scan their library card at the Internet booking station to reserve the next available computer. Patrons may use only their own library card to access the Internet, although guest logins are available at the Reference Desk for nonresidents. Read the Public Access Computer Policy.
Saving and Downloading Files
Files may not be saved on the public computers after the session time has expired. Users should bring their own thumb or flash drives to save any files or for downloading materials.
The Youth Department on the first floor provides public access computers with internet access and children's games for patrons in 6th grade or younger and their parents or guardians. The library does not filter internet content. A parent or guardian is responsible for the child's access to and use of library computers and the Internet.
Wireless Internet (WiFi)
The library offers free wireless internet access. The service is available 24/7 and each device is limited to four hours and 300 MB download capability per day. Read the complete WiFi terms of service and acceptable use policy.
Laptops Available for Checkout
The library has 20 laptops available for checkout at the service desk. Laptops are to be used in the library only. They cannot be removed from the library building. Borrowers must have a Cedar Falls Public Library adult library card. Laptops are checked out to the cardholder, and become the responsibility of the borrower.
Print copies may be made from the computers and laptops for $.10 per page, black and white or $.50 per page for color.
Filtering Internet Content
The Library does not filter Internet content. Staff may, however, limit images displayed on those screens open to public viewing in order to ensure the secure and comfortable environment of the Library. The Library reserves the right to end an Internet session at any time at our sole and uncontrolled discretion.
Library staff cannot provide in-depth training on personal computer use or the Internet. The staff may be able to offer searching suggestions and answer questions. Internet, word processing, and other computer books are available for patron use.
