Singer/songwriter Danny Santos melds the inspiration of his Chicano heritage, a musical legacy ranging from Hank Williams to the Beatles, and a Texas-sized determination to create a unique mix of country/folk music tinged with bluegrass and the blues.  Born in South Texas, Danny began playing the guitar at age thirteen and singing and songwriting followed soon after.  Danny has performed locally at the KUNI studio and at Cup of Joe.  He will be accompanied by a sideman, who will conduct a guitar flatpicking and mandolin technique workshop at 3:00 p.m.  The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Civilian Experience at Gettysburg (presentation and book signing)

Tuesday, July 23, 7pm

One hundred fifty years ago, the most well-documented land battle of the Civil War took place in rural Pennsylvania. But before Gettysburg was known as a battlefield, it was a town full of ordinary people. Come hear award-winning author Jocelyn Green share what life was like for the civilians who lived through the battle and the aftermath. Green, author of Widow of Gettysburg, will share several perspectives from Gettysburg residents, including Elizabeth Thorn, the pregnant grave digger; John Burns, the 1812 veteran who took up a gun and fought to protect his home, 9-year-old Sadie Bushman, the youngest nurse in the Civil War, and more. Copies of Wedded to War and Widow of Gettysburg will be available for purchase and signing.

We Need Volunteers for a Special Project null

The library is in the first phase of a major upgrade project. We are looking for volunteers to help install new RFID tags in library materials. Tasks include removing materials from the shelves, attaching the new tags, scanning the items, and replacing them on the shelves. The library uses the Dewey Decimal system so volunteers will need good reading, writing, and alphabetizing skills and the ability to follow directions, pay attention to details, multi-task, and work quickly. If you would like to help with this project, please email rfid@cedar-falls.lib.ia.us or call 319-268-5543. More information will be provided once we have training dates and work schedules in place.

All produce from the garden will be donated to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.
