A picture is worth a thousand words, but memories are priceless. Have you recorded your memories for future generations? If this is a “someday” project on your bucket list, now is the hour.
Due to popular demand, area writer and author Jacquie McTaggart will be returning to the Cedar Falls Public Library for another six-week workshop on memoir writing. This workshop will meet in the second-floor meeting room of the library from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. every Tuesday for six weeks, beginning April 4th through May 16th. We will be taking a break one of the weeks in April. There will be no class April 25th. It is open to all levels of writers – both the experienced and inexperienced. Everyone has a story and everybody’s story deserves to be heard.
The writing tips, handouts, mentor pieces, homework assignments (and senior jokes) will be different from the previous two six-week sessions, but the purpose remains the same. You will start (or continue) a written record of the people and events that have shaped your lives, and you’ll be part of a fun-loving, supporting group of Cedar Valley neighbors.
Jacquie’s weekly slice-of-life suggested homework might be an accomplishment, a disappointment, a memorable family tradition, a lesson learned the hard way, a form of recreation that is no longer popular, or whatever. Participants will be invited (not pressured) to share their written work with the rest of the group.
Margaret Mead said, "Grandparents need grandchildren to keep the changing world alive for them, and grandchildren need grandparents to help them know who they are and to give them a sense of human experience in a (past) world they cannot know." We hope you’ll suppress your fears and join us at the Cedar Falls library for an enjoyable, non-threatening and rewarding experience. Jacquie McTaggart, aka The Queen of Fun, will have you smiling nonstop as you create a priceless family heirloom.
Regular attendance is encouraged, but NOT required. And finally, we hope those who attended the first and/or second round of the Memoir Project will come back, and we urge the rest of you to give it a try. We think you’ll be glad you did. No registration is required
