"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood. "--Fred Rogers

Puppet shows have been a staple at the Cedar Falls Public Library for years. They are silly, fun, and educational.  Puppet shows help young children develop creative skills, emphasizing learning through play and exploring their imaginations.

Puppet Shows introduce many storytelling elements or pre-literacy skills, such as Narrative Skills, Phonological Awareness, and Vocabulary.(Learn more about pre-literacy or early literacy skills here.) Many of our shows are based on Fairy Tales or picture books, so if the audience is familiar with the story, they can begin to make predictions. After the show, we encourage you to check out books similar to our skits and have your child predict what will happen.
